Support in Maths
At WBJS we aim to provide a high-quality mathematics education which provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject. We want our children to become fluent mathematicians, competent in a range of mental and written strategies and strategic problem solvers. We give children a wide range of opportunities to talk about maths, solve problems, develop arithmetic and reasoning skills and apply these skills to real life situations to give purpose to their learning. Our year group teams work together to create a scheme of work, which provides a useful framework in which to plan innovative learning opportunities that meet the needs of all our learners. Whilst we follow the ‘White Rose Maths’ scheme to provide us with a progression map, teachers use a range of resources and strategies to supplement the children’s learning and make maths exciting.
Below are some resources and links that might help you to support your child at home with maths.
'Maths with Mrs B' is a collection of maths videos that can be accessed online. They follow the WBJS maths objectives and are aligned with the National Curriculum. They reinforce the strategies that we teach here at WBJS as well as the maths vocabulary we model to the children.
